5 – The album is excellent, it could also be considered perfect or near perfect. There may be a few glitches or setbacks, but they are not detrimental.

4 – The album is very good. There aren’t too many glitches or setbacks but the ones that are present keep the album from being excellent.

3 – The album is mediocre. While the album is alright, there isn’t anything that makes it stand out above other albums. Some of it is good, and some of it needs work.

2 – The album is bad. Many things have gone wrong, and unless it happens to be within your personal favorite genre, chances are it’s not even worth your time. The band has a lot to work on.

1 – The album is terrible. The album isn’t worth your time, no exceptions.

Note: Be aware that in November 2004 the grading scale was revised to how it is shown above in order to maintain more consistences between our reviewers. Many of the reviews in our Archive may include ½ marks and ¼ marks and please be aware that the ratings at that time were also more open to our reviewers’ interpretations of the rating scale, as opposed to this now absolute grading scale which our reviewers are responsible to follow in their rating procedures.

Another Kind Of Death - Sleepless Every Night - added - February 13th, 2008

3/5

This is a rather noisy variety of metalcore that comes barreling on with a barrage that causes me to really listen in order to sort out what is going on. I think I finally understand what’s happening here from Spain’s Another Kind Of Death. The drums are overall fairly impressive both in a traditional sense and due to the fact that there are some different patterns being played here by that instrument. The rest of the band obviously agrees because the drums are the musical focal point for several tracks here. The guitar and bass vary between some diverse and sometimes jarring sounds at best, and rather mundane and clunky filler at worst. The vocals are typical, yet they gel with the musical style for the majority of the time. Although, there were a couple of tracks where it just seemed like the vocals were being used so much that we didn’t get enough of the music. The potential is certainly present, but it's a matter of figuring everyone’s strength and using that in combination with one another. They are talented enough to spread things out a little instead of forcing too much into a short time, which is the impression I got from several tracks. Still, this is certainly worth giving a listen.
