Chrome Division w/ Tony White - added - August 19th, 2008
Interviewer: Ruben Mosqueda

Booze, Broads And Beelzebub is a continuation of the last album and I love the fact that you didn’t stray from the original formula. How would describe your sound to someone that hasn’t ever heard Chrome Division?

Well, to give people a reference I would say that it’s a mix of all the heavy Metal and Rock`n`Roll bands that were popular in the 80`s and early 90`s but with a more modern and heavier sound. Some critics have mentioned Motorhead, Motley Crue and Black Label Society when trying to describe our sound and I cant really argue with that but I think you’ll also hear a lot of other influences  when you listen to our music.

There wasn’t any touring behind the debut album what are your plans to promote Booze, Broads And Beelzebub either in North America or abroad?

We actually have plans for a US tour but it’s not easy to make it fit into everyone’s schedule. We are working on it at the moment and it looks as if its going to happen, but its not all worked out yet so I cant really promise anything.

As I stated I love the new record I think it’s as energetic as Doomsday Rock ‘N’ Roll. I can’t decide which I like better.  What’s the difference between this album and the last album? Did you guys approach this album differently? If so how?

Well, first of all thanks, that’s what we like to hear.

The biggest difference between the two albums is that on the new one we made all of the songs by jamming at rehearsal and everyone contributed in the making of the songs. On the Doomsday Rock ‘N’ Roll album most of the songs were made by Shagrath before we got to rehearsal, so we all worked together on the arranging of the songs. I would also say that the sound is more aggressive and heavier on the

Booze, Broads And Beelzebub album.

I was quite surprised that you guys chose to cover ZZ Top’s “Sharp Dressed Man.” I’ve been a fan of ZZ’s for about 24 years now. I have seen them live many times and I’m burnt out on that song. When they play it live it’s a great time to head for the pisser.  I was a little apprehensive about your cover but after hearing it, I really enjoyed it. You made the song new again for me. It was heavier, grittier and gave it new life. Who was responsible for picking the cover and was the intention to make it different?

I actually felt the same way as you do about that song, but once we tried it at rehearsal we found it to work really well. It was Luna’s idea to do this song but we all agreed that it had to be in a faster tempo and with a heavier feel to it, and it was intentional to make it different from the original ZZ version. It just wouldn’t have worked out if we tried to copy the sound of ZZ Top, We had to do it our own way to get away with it.

Out of curiosity Nickleback did a live cover “Sharp Dressed Man” on VH-1 Classic’s Rock Honors last year. Did you happen to catch that? If so what did you think of it?

No, haven’t heard that one.

You’re a lucky man.

Was there a list of other potential covers for the album? If so what else made the list?

It was a short list, containing a couple of Motley Crue songs and a couple of AC/DC songs. We never tried them out because the ZZ song was first on the list and worked out immediately, but live we do AC/DC`s “Whole Lotta Rosie” and that one is totally killer.

What are some other bands or projects that you’ve been a part of in the past? I don’t imagine that Chrome Division is your only band.

Besides playing in Minas Tirith for the last 16 years I have played in Old Man’s Child (Galder from Dimmu Borgir’s solo band). Recently I have also started a new project with Minas Tirith guitarist Stian Kråbøl, Athera from Susperia and Gard from Khold. As soon as we have arranged all the songs we will go into studio to record. Also I have been doing a couple of albums for some Norwegian Rock bands that will be out next year.

Chrome Division has gone beyond the one-off project with Booze, Broads And Beelzebub. Is it safe to say that it will be a longstanding band at this point?

Chrome Division is definitely a band and not a project, and we have already started making songs for our third album, so we will keep on going.

Any plans for a video clip for a track off the album? I think you guys could do a lot of cool things with your image.

We have plans of making a video but to play live is our first priority right now.

I know this is probably difficult but if you could pick one track, your favorite track off the album which would it be and why?

Its not only difficult, its just impossible for me to pick just one track.

Thank you so much Tony. I love the album, I love the band and I hope to see you guys on the road in the near future.

Thanks for your interest in Chrome Division, we really appreciate it. We are doing all we can to get over to the US to do a tour, so hopefully we will see you there!
